Casa Ausonia is situated in Furci, Southern Abruzzo. The villlage hosts a bakery, butchers, 2 bars and the best pizza at the “Locanda del Brigante”.
Visit the array of similar hill-top towns, “kingdoms”, embracing the boundary with Abruzzo’s sister region the Molise, from Trivento to San Buono, and enjoy an authentic Italian perspective.
In the mountains, “Le Montagne”, experience the expansive agriturismo cuisine options or along the Sea, “Il Mare”, stop off for authentic fish fare at a Traboccho. These wooden stilt structures define the Abruzzo coastline and serve their daily catch.
In the summer, Abruzzo is in full bloom. Its mountain osterias and trattorias are open for the season, enjoy trekking, cycling and sightseeing. The coastline, glistening in cyan hues has a palpable sense of enjoyment and relaxation. You will be asked by everyone, “Are you going to the beach?”, or “have you just been to the beach?” The beach is the thing, and there are many sandy shores to explore and call your own.
The towns and cities light up in summer, from lazy aperitivo chats to the varied towns’ festivals. From saints’ days to seasonal food fairs, there is nothing like experiencing the true local colour.
In winter, hiking and cycling in the forests in search of waterfalls or panoramic vistas are ingrained in Abruzzo life. The many ski slopes, Passo Lanciano and Capracotta for example, are about an hour and a half drive from Furci and offer views of the mountains on one side and and the sea on the other. One of the few places you can enjoy both in one day.
